I have a 1998 Coleman Bayside with a couple of water problems.

1) When I hook up city water to the regular water inlet, the internal water
tank fills up and slowly drains out of the water tank fill cap (the water
comes out of the cap where you would put water into the internal storage
tank). Someone told me that there is a check valve somewhere that likely
needs to be cleaned or replaced. Any ideas on what I need to do?

2) Now that my internal water tank (located under the camper) is filling to
the brim as noted above, I have found a small pinhole leak in the top of the
tank. Is there a good type of glue or method that is best to fix it with? I
believe the tank is polythylene and all the epoxies and glues that I have
found that are for plastic say "not for polyethyne" on the label. Any
suggestions are appreciated!

There is a one way check valve that is, I believe, located near the top of
the water filler pipe. Have a look at the plumbing and it should be obvious.
It definately sounds bad.

I believe polyethylene is a thermoplastic. A quick google search should tell
you more about it. If it is a thermoplastic you can simply use a soldering
iron to melt the plastic and seal up the hole.

Yup. The check valve is usually located just after the water pump that
pulls from the water tank. It doesn't look like much, but it is not just another

piece of tubing. Some water pumps incorporate an internal check valve.
If you cannot find the check valve, you can insert a new one just after the
water pump. The check valve may also be leaking by if your city water
pressure is high. A water pressure regulator may be in order for you.

JB Weld fixes everything! *grins* ( Read the directions, I've never
used it on polyethlyne, so it may be contraindicated. ) I'm sure that your
local hardware store will have something. Failing that, the RV store ought
to have something. Do use care when patching. ANy glue that works will
also soften or dissolve the plastic, so it will be easy to weaken the entire
section of the tank if you use too much glue.

Had a similar problem this year, and had to replace the filler fitting which
has a check valve in it. Not a big deal. Just remove the two screws
fastening the fitting to the outside of the camper, pull and unscrew the
filler fitting from the internal hose. Replace that part (don't bother
trying to fix it), and you should be OK.
